The McHenry-Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District’s new hands-on education trailer, called “The Greatest Show of Earth,” is now available to McHenry and Lake County schools and youth groups for a small charge.  This handicapped accessible trailer contains a variety of stations where students work through a series of questions on soil texture, microscopic views of soil, microscopic views of soil organisms, sedimentation, organisms that aid in plant decomposition, soil life, soil profiles, roots, soil mapping, and erosion. 

Outside the trailer students listen to a variety of interactive presentations on erosion, soil sampling, sedimentation, and human/environment watershed interactions. 

The trailer’s target audience is 4^th through 6^th grade, with 5^th grade being ideal.
