McHenry-Lake County SWCD Offers Grant Money to Youth Groups
Does your
group have a conservation-related project in mind? Do you need some funding
assistance for the purchase of materials or supplies?
For 2014, the SWCD
board has set aside approximately $1000.00 that can be used for conservation
education related projects by McHenry-Lake County schools and/or youth groups.
Projects should be innovative, educational (for the youths involved), beneficial
to the community, and able to be completed within one year. Examples of
projects that will be considered for funding are water quality monitoring,
groundwater protection awareness, tree planting, stream quality monitoring,
prairie restorations, building bird/bat houses, building informative nature
guide signs, planting arboretums, and other projects limited only by
imagination.
The board
is now taking applications to fund as many projects as possible. All
applications are due by the last Friday in April. Applications will be
reviewed at the regularly scheduled May board meeting. The board will then
select which project(s) to sponsor and the applicant will be notified
accordingly.
To apply
for this grant money, simply write a letter of 500 words or less that introduces
your group, and explains your group’s project. Please be specific about the
total cost of the project, and explain which portion of the cost is requested
for funding.
Grant money
will be given to winners on a reimbursable basis and all
projects must be completed within one year of receiving the grant award.
